Mission Statement

Our number one priority is student achievement with high expectations
being the responsibility of our entire school community.

Chestnut Elementary School for Science and Engineering is a controlled Choice School with a special focus. This means a controlled number of additional students may apply to attend our school. 2011-12 K-5th grade students who are zoned for Reedy Creek, Pleasant Hill, Sunrise, Bellalago, Poinciana Academy for Fine Arts, Koa, and Deerwood schools may wish to complete an application process to attend Chestnut Elementary School for Science and Engineering. It is not necessary for students already living within the attendance zone to apply through this process. All Chestnut students will be able to take full advantage of this enhanced program.

The school willl continue to provide quality instruction based on each grade level’s Florida Sunshine State Learning Standards. In addition, we will have a special focus on rigorous, enriching experiences in math, science, technology, and engineering. The students will be engaged in hands-on lessons and real-life, problem-based learning. In addition to the traditional content areas, each grade level will have enrichment mini-courses to use research and technology tools, participate in various math and science labs, design and build various structures through team work and an application of their academic skills, and pursue particular areas of interest with academic theme-based and sports activities in before and/or after school Student Clubs.
