Osceola School District's Free All-Day Summer Voluntary Prekindergarten
Osceola youngsters who are five years old on or before September 1, 2012, and who have not already participated in a school year Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) program, have the opportunity to enroll now in the Osceola School District's free Summer VPK program from June 18 – August 3, Monday - Friday from 7:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. Students who have not attended a VPK program during the previous school year will be prepared for success in kindergarten with the benefits of low teacher-to-child ratios, certified teachers in the classrooms, and an academic play-based curriculum. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

· VPK classrooms will be located at the following school district sites:
o Chambers Park Community Center, located at 2380 N. Smith Street in Kissimmee;
o Pleasant Hill Elementary, located at 1253 Pleasant Hill Road in Kissimmee;
o Westside K-8, located at 2551 Westside Boulevard in Kissimmee; and
o Osceola Center for Early Learning at Ross Jeffries Education Center, located at 1200 Vermont Avenue in St. Cloud.

To register, parents are asked to first call the 4C office at 321-219-6300 to get a Certificate of Eligibility, and then call the district's Osceola Center for Early Learning office at 407-870-4895 to schedule an appointment for registration. Parents will need to bring the following documents for registration:

· Child's original birth certificate - (photo copies not accepted)
· Proof of physical exam completed within the past year
· Immunization record on Form 680 (not expired); and
· Two proofs of residency (acceptable proofs include current lease, utility bill, income tax record, or government benefits letter. Two utility bills will not be accepted. Individuals who do not have two different proofs of address should contact Student Services at 407-870-4897 and obtain an Affidavit of Residency).

Osceola County School For The Arts Recognized As One Of America's Best High Schools
Osceola County School for the Arts (OCSA) has earned a prestigious place in the Gold Medal category of the U.S. News & World Report's Best High Schools newest ranking.  Of the nearly 22,000 public high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia reviewed, OCSA earned the ranking of 352.  The school ranked 26 within the state of Florida. Two additional Osceola schools, the district's Professional And Technical High School (PATHS) and New Dimensions High School, were also named in the Bronze category in the same report.

Osceola School District Recognized as an American Heart Association Fit-Friendly Company
The Osceola School District has been recognized as a Platinum-Level Fit-Friendly Company by the American Heart Association for recognizing the importance of a healthy workplace for employees and for taking important steps to create a culture of physical activity in the workplace.  Platinum-level employers promote a wellness culture by providing support to employees and by implementing physical, nutritional, and cultural changes.

Osceola Schools Recognized With State Awards For Outstanding Volunteer Programs
Osceola schools have earned a total of 59 Golden and Silver School Awards, the state's highest recognition for community involvement. The Golden School Award is given annually by the Florida Department of Education to recognize schools with exemplary volunteer programs. The award is presented to schools that meet certain criteria, including faculty training on how to work with volunteers and program policies and procedures. The school principal must designate a school volunteer coordinator to provide leadership for the school volunteer program, and the school must have a total number of hours of volunteer service that equals twice the number of students enrolled in the school.
